The perfect place
to watch the sun sets into the Indian Ocean

Sandy Beach and Seaview Pool

Take with you the colourful local kanga-pareo provided in the room and follow the sandy path passing the Sultan Palace ruins and discover the beauty of Mawimbini beach with calm, crystal blue water, powdery white sand, lush vegetation and watch the fishermen with their boats. Our beach staff will welcome and take care of you, feel at home safe and undisturbed.

Tucked away from the mass tourism, on our beach you can see the real local life. It’s always quiet in the morning when women look for seafood, and in the afternoon youngsters exercise and enjoy their time, fishermen sail everyday according to the tide. Children play in the water, in particular on weekends when the beach is livelier, football matches on the beach, workout, acrobatics and fun. There aren’t many other tourists or beach boys selling tours, the beach is yours.

Unwind on a sun-bed under the shade of a palm tree and enjoy the tranquility of our hanging beach beds. Swimming in the ocean is always possible except on full or new moon days when the tide can be very low. Those days are ideal for long walks looking for shells, exploring the mangrove bays and cliffs and the old corals with crabs and tiny fish. Or just dive into the refreshing sea view pool.

Prison Island, Stone Town and other small islands are visible from the beach. Take a boat and head to the Tortoise sanctuary, to Bawe island for snorkelling and Funguu Mbaraka sandbank, which is just as famous as Nakupenda.

Our beach bar serves refreshing ice-cold drinks, perfect sundowners and bites all day

Sip on a cocktail and indulge in a spectacular African sunset from the large pool. Watch as the blazing sun falls into the sea, painting the sky and the water with spectacular colours. A stunning backdrop cast from the sultan’s palace ruins creates a unique atmosphere. As the sun descends and turns to night, spot the city lights in the distance and fishermen’s boats as they head home after a day out at sea.

Dine under the stars, take an evening stroll on the beach or simply relish the moment of Mangrove’s beauty and atmosphere.

Abundant breakfasts on the beach with local specialties and candlelit barbecues underneath starry skies with a bonfire and local traditional musicians can be arranged for the ultimate Zanzibari experience.

Zanzibar is a unique destination, filled with beautiful beaches but also with history and character. Our beach extends up to a Sultan Palace garden built on a cliff in the mangrove bay. You can visit the ruins of the residence, and hear from Haji and Marina the story of the place.
